can i use an external CD/DVD writer for laptop to my desktop computer?

i have a laptop that i got for christmas and i want to play wow on it but i cant because there is no disc drive i have looked on the internet but i cant find any good usb disk drives so i was wondering if anyone was using a good one and what type is it?

I have the Gateway T-series silver laptop. The dvd rom is broken as it will not read anything at all. I have tried all the different things I have read on past questions and nothing is working to get it to work. I am thinking of either getting an internal drive, if it is not hard to install or getting an external one. I have been reading on a lot of problems with the external ones. Thanks

My dvd drive broke on my laptop just as I was starting reinstall on windows. How do I install os with a external drive? I plug it in and start laptop but nothing happens. How do I do this?

Computer is Packard Bell P3 500Mhz, win 98, 10gb, 512mb ram. Have uploaded important small files to web and downloaded to laptop but I have loads of mp3s etc about 6gb in total and uploading these is not an option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a dell laptop Studio 17 series. The dvd drive is broken and I would like to re-install a clean copy of windows 7 but the DVD drive is broken. It would cost 400 dollars to replace but if I could somehow use a usb plug in dvd drive as the default everything would be fine. Can this be done?

I just bought a Thinkpad X100e and there is no DVD Writer inside. I have a spoiled laptop which contains a internal DVD Drive. So, i was wondering if i can remove it and make it to an external one so that it can be used on my Thinkpad. Any help would be sincerely appreciated,

How would I know or does anybody know if my laptop and external dvd modem could play a blu-ray dvd?
