USB 2.0 connection between NEC ND-2510 DVD burner in an external case connected to a laptop. Downloaded the firmware upgrade file for ND-2510 from the NEC web site. It detects the DVD burner drive but fails to upgrade the firmware. Is it absolutely necessary that the DVD burner be on an IDE cable in a desktop computer for a firmware upgrade to work?

I would like to purchase either one. However I do not know more than what I found on-line. I would like to know from personal experiences that what would the best buy? I’m hoping to tape a show starting on Monday and I want to be able to record without any problems.. so any suggestions?

Hi my laptop does not come wih a built in DVD/CD Drive. I want to install vista fresh install, but I cannot boot as my laptop does not support USB booting, I have an external USB DVD Drive, and tried many boot images and USB drivers. None of them work. Also my laptop does not support Floppy booting, basically no optical media, but I CAN boot from SD card.

Are there any files I can add into the SD card that will let me boot the Vista DVD i.e. any USB Drivers that will let me load the DVD Drive and the DVD in DOS, Command Propmt etc etc? And the commands to load the DVD?

I tried everything such as R:/setup.exe but it comes up as this is not supported in DOS.

Thanks.

laptop won’t recognize cd/usb/dvd?

When I put a CD/DVD into my laptop, it can only be played if I go into a programme such as windows media player and load it from there. ‘My computer’ doesn’t recognize it and I recently found out that it’s also not allowing me to use anything with a USB either, When I put in a USB stick, ‘my computer’ doesn’t recognize it. However the little ‘safely remove hardware’ icon appears. I’m finding this frustrating as it means I can’t get anything off my laptop/update my ipod.

I’ve checked to see if it’s a virus but it’s not.

Can anyone one help?

If so, where can I buy it?

My laptop does not have an optical drive (DVD or CD-ROM). If I can buy an external DVD drive that also is a DVD player with LCD screen, I will be able to kill two birds with one stone. Of course, it would not be economically sensible if such a device costs more than a DVD-ROM and DVD player combined.

My laptop is fairly new. It is an HP nw8240. I have created dvds from my digital camcorder using Roxio Creator 9. But I would like to convert my old home vcr movies to dvd. What is the best way to hook up my vcr to my laptop? Is it a USB Video Capture device? If so, which one? If not, what is the best way?

Want to watch movies on my laptop when traveling. My laptop does not have a built in disk drive. So if I use a external hard disk drive with a usb, use less battery power than watching the movie with an external dvd drive?

I wanted a thinkpad x201, which is a 12inch notebook, but as I just got to know it doesn’t have any DVD writer built in which really made me wonder, do all small laptops not have one?
The smallest laptop I ever had was 14", dvd writer included of course..

i’d like ot know, what is the smallest possible notebook size which has an internal dvd writer?
