The New FX-50 From Freecom Is The First to Offer Mobile 16x and Double-Layer DVD Recording Features

Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) December 1, 2004

The latest external multi-format DVD-burner from Freecom Technologies, a leading European manufacturer of high quality, easy-to-use multimedia storage solutions is the Freecom FX-50 series featuring the first mobile device to offer 16x writing speed combined with the innovative double-layer technology, and it is shipping now.

Freecom US Sales Director Dave Glassman stated, “We are very pleased to be offering a cutting edge solution to burning Double Layer and 16X DVD’s. The US is a mobile society and the ability to plug and play a 16X DVD DL burner without the hassle of restarting your computer makes the FX-50 a truly great product.”

As in the case of original film on pre-recorded DVD’s, the FX-50 drive writes two superimposed layers of data on the same side of the blank DVD, making the “turning” of the data medium during the burning process unnecessary. In the case of film, this additional memory space – almost doubles that of a conventional DVD and for example the added space can be used for additional language tracks.

DVD+R9 (Double Layer) media, which is compatible with DVD-ROM drives and DVD players, can be written by the latest Freecom drive at 4x speed. The FX-50 reads and writes DVD+R (W) and DVD-R (W) at 16x speed, re-writing them at 4x speed. The new Freecom drive therefore takes less than 8 minutes to write a conventional 4.7-Gigabyte disc. CD -R (W) media are read and written at 48x speed, and re-written at 24x speed.

The FX-50 external multi-format burner is installed in seconds: it is simply connected to the USB 2.0 or FireWire interface using the supplied connection cable, which is automatically recognized by the operating system of the computer, and is then ready for immediate use. No restart of the PC or Mac is required.

Freecom supplies the FX-50 DVD+/-RW Double Layer complete with USB 2.0 and FireWire connection cable and a comprehensive software suite. The current Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator DVD Edition burner software also includes DVD-Builder for video editing, DVD authoring and the DVDMax DVD-player software. The software supplied can be used for the professional editing of video, photo and music files, and the quick and easy creation of back-ups. The package also includes a power supply unit, one DVD+R, one CD-R and the 7-language manual.

Good Samaritan Hospital Receives Gifts From Local School — Gifts used to make pediatric patients’ stay easier

(PRWEB) June 29, 2004

Good Samaritan Hospital today received a very special donation from local Yeshiva Darchei Noam of Monsey. The Principal of the school, Rabbi Jacob Horowitz, along with his students, presented Good Samaritan with a laptop computer and a wide variety of CD’s and DVD’s. The laptop will be a part of a lending library in Good Samaritan’s Pediatric Ward, providing pediatric patients with access to DVD’s, CD’s, and overall use of the laptop.

Children and parents of the Yeshiva raised over $ 4,500 for this project. The initial fundraising process began on Purim, one of the most festive Jewish holidays

“The enthusiasm that the children showed throughout this project was quite inspiring,” said Rabbi Horowitz. “They were such a big part of this project, either donating money from their own pockets, having their parents drive them to the store to pick out DVD’s and CD’s, or by making personal cards for the children in the hospital. They truly dedicated themselves to this project. Overall, it’s a nice way to say thanks to the hospital for all of vital services it provides to the community,” concluded Horowitz.

Good Samaritan Hospital is a part of the Bon Secours Charity Health System, which also includes St. Anthony community in Warwick, NY and Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. Additionally, Bon Secours Charity Health System provides the services of a Certified Home Health Agency, two long-term care facilities, an assisted living and adult home facility and several other medical programs. For more information about this or other events contact Good Samaritan Hospital at 845-368-5000.

Micro/sys Releases the New StackableUSB™ Specification for I/O Expansion in Embedded Systems

Montrose, CA (PRWEB) February 12, 2007

Micro/sys, Inc. has announced the release of the StackableUSB™ Specification, which defines a standard for stacking I/O boards onto a single board computer using the popular USB 2.0 interface. A single board computer, operating as a host, can communicate to multiple USB peripheral cards directly through mating USB 2.0 connectors resident on the CPU and I/O cards. Satisfying the growing demand for faster communication between I/O channels and CPUs in embedded applications, the StackableUSB™ format eliminates cables, reduces pin count, and requires a smaller connector footprint than traditional interconnect architectures. Securely bolting together to increase reliability and mobility in rugged or harsh environments, the StackableUSB™ format features a USB point-to-point architecture where connections are routed up a stack to the next peripheral in the stack. These features combine to make StackableUSB™ an ideal platform for embedded systems.

StackableUSB™ Advantages

Each StackableUSB™ connector supports up to 8 USB peripheral devices in the stack without a hub. There are several features USB I/O supports that have not been available in the past when using traditional stacking architectures such as PC/104 and PC/104-Plus. USB supports automatic enumeration that allows the host to detect devices plugged into the stack and to install the drivers necessary for the system to operate with minimal human intervention. USB also supports power management so that USB peripherals or devices can be placed in a low power mode to conserve power, an issue that is paramount in embedded systems relying on battery backed power or environments where heat generation is of key concern. USB 2.0 also offers increased data bandwidth to support today’s high speed A/D, and DAC data rates.

Implementation of USB on a single board computer or I/O card is easy and cost effective. Inclusion of USB in most popular chipsets and many microcontrollers makes this an easy and inexpensive implementation compared to PCI and PCI Express I/O. USB also offers a range of speeds, from 480Mbs at high speed, 12Mbs at full speed, and 1.5Mbs at low speed. This provides embedded system designers a road map into the future for increasing their system throughput as technology advances.

StackableUSB™ Going Forward

The industry originator of the StackableUSB™ specification is opening up a market for USB I/O to move into embedded OEM applications. Typically these systems have not tolerated USB devices well because of constricted spaces, high vibration, or special packaging or enclosure requirements. StackableUSB™ uses the same serial interconnect standard that is found on the common desktop or laptop PC but on form factors such as the popular 3.5” x 3.5” size computer board with a stackable connector. This specification is available at http://www.stackableusb.org and is published by Micro/sys, Inc. which is a leader and innovator within the embedded computer industry.

About Micro/sys

Micro/sys (http://www.embeddedsys.com) has been manufacturing OEM industrial microcomputer products since 1976, including board-level products and integrated computers. Micro/sys has been recognized as an innovator in the embedded single board computer marketplace with product introductions that implement the relevant technology from the desktop world in a manner that meets the needs of the demanding embedded world. Micro/sys embedded computers are specified by OEMs in semiconductor processing, medical, mail handling, pharmaceutical, industrial marking, process control, and many other industries.

Blue Ray DVD Drive: When It Needs To Be Restored

dvd drive
by BAMCAT

So you have your blue ray player now and now you notice that something is wrong with it. Maybe you got a blue ray DVD rental and it doesn’t seem to be working and so you are unsure of what to do. Well if this is the case, then there are a few things that you are going to want to try here.

Of course first, if it is a rental DVD that you are trying to play, you want to consider that it could be the actual DVD itself. After all there have been one hundred people before you who have rented this movie and watched it and so you can never be sure.

The best way to determine is to take a movie that you already know works and try this in your blue ray player. If you find that the blue ray DVD drive is still not working, then at least you know that this is the problem.

]]>

Repairing the Drive

To repair the blue ray DVD drive, the first thing that you want to do is troubleshoot. You don’t want to just take a guess at what is wrong with the blue ray DVD drive because honestly, chances are that you are going to be incorrect in your guess and so there is really no point in you doing this.

Instead, you will want to read the manual of your blue ray player first and see what it has to say. There should be a FAQ section or other troubleshooting area that you can check out and which has answers to a lot of this. You may be able to find what you need to fix your blue ray DVD drive here, or not.

If not, and you find that the blue ray DVD drive is still having troubles, then your best bet is probably going to be to take it in to an electronics professional, someone who knows what they are doing and so you are not going to have to worry about messing it up anymore.

Most people know that they want to watch their movies on their blue ray players but beyond that are pretty much helpless with repairing it. At least you know that there are people out there that you can hire if you want to get your blue ray DVD drive repaired and start watching your favorite videos once again.
